SmackDown Results 5/2/21: Edge's target remains a mystery

Edge and Bianca Belair kept their cards close to their chest with their WrestleMania choices still very much up in the air after Smackdown.

The Rated R Superstar and the EST of WWE are set to make decisions on which of the company's world champions to face after each winning their Royal Rumble match last weekend.

Edge has superbly created genuine intrigue as to which direction he'll go in. Having confronted Drew McIntyre on Monday and invited himself to NXT to face up to champ Finn Balor in midweek, the Canadian rounded off the set with a trip to Smackdown where he traded verbals with Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Just as McIntyre was blindsided by Sheamus and Balor still has his battles with Pete Dunne, Smackdown went off the air with Kevin Owens attacking Reigns, leaving fans none the wiser as to where Edge's focus actually is.

Belair's path to Mania seems slightly more straightforward - at least in the eyes of most fans who are itching to see a dream match between her and Smackdown champ Sasha Banks at the biggest show of the year. Belair did cross paths with The Boss this week, but similarly to Edge's plight, Belair's decision took a backseat to another rival as Carmella kept herself firmly in the champion's immediate sights.

Big E is still Intercontinental Champion after retaining his gold in the night's main event. He turned aside the challenges of Sami Zayn and Apollo Crews in a triple threat match - eventually pinning Crews after Crews had launched Zayn out of matters and pretty much into the timekeeper's lap.

Fresh from reportedly signing a new deal with WWE, Cesaro also tasted victory on Smackdown after solid but short outing against Daniel Bryan. For a man seemingly on his last run in WWE, Bryan ends up on the losing end more often than not these days, with Cesaro clinching this win thanks to a sharpshooter, though the two did bump fists at the end to leave with no animosity.

The lively Dominik Mysterio picked up a notable win over King Corbin - though the youngster had a sizable assist from father Rey as he managed to put his opponent away with a frog splash.

Elsewhere, on a night where Seth Rollins' return to Smackdown was confirmed for next week and Hulk Hogan needlessly appeared with a random chirp about Edge's business, Bayley was victorious in her match with Ruby Riott. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode saw off the tandem of Chad Cable and Otis in tag team action.
